Quick Fixers counter energy poverty

Many people really have no idea where their high energy bills come from. Some say: I have the money, I just pay it. But most people have a lot of problems. They can use all the help they can get," says Joseph Ogbonna. He is coordinator and planner of the QuickFix brigade, a group of neighborhood residents who help other residents save energy.

Residents can sign up to get their homes fixed. In cooperation with housing corporation Ymere and Owner Associations (VvEs), the QuickFixers sometimes tackle entire buildings at once. Then they knock on every door: poor, rich, young, old, aware and unaware of energy issues. They bring energy-saving measures such as radiator foil, draft strips, sealing gaps, LED lights, window film and a water-saving shower head.

They do this for free, with a maximum of 30 to sometimes even 75 euros worth of materials. To homeowners who can afford it but are not so handy, they charge a fee.
