In September 2020, cooperative Groene Hub was established in Gaasperdam (Amsterdam Southeast), as an active learning and doing community of social and sustainable frontrunners who want to work together on bringing a healthy (profitable) neighbourhood to life. We do this by giving a practical translation to Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics. In this way, we solve a practical sustainable (social, economic and ecological) issue, through the creation of multiple values.
We work together and with the neighbourhood and call this " organic community development". We create the safe and brave space where initiatives and people can flourish. From a respectful encounter and equality. Because we are all searching how to build a just and exciting donut economy, this experimental environment is needed, where innovation takes place in the emergence of new ways of collaborating, organizing and living together.
Schools, companies and institutes are welcome to experience the Living Lab by moving through the Living Donut, do the impact tour, play the donut game, or participate in a socratic design session.
A living lab is in a defined location where different parties work together to develop an innovative solution in a real-life setting. The 'real-life' environment is necessary to develop innovative solutions that can survive in the complexity of real life and daily practice.
Â
The Green Hub has continued to develop as a Living Lab where it provides an important bridge function between knowledge institutions, mentoring students, the municipality and building and strengthening partnerships with businesses and other local organizations. In doing so, we make a sustainable contribution to area development and the strengthening and anchoring of local entrepreneurship. The impact measurement makes the value of projects and initiatives visible and reinforces them.Â
